Nature Sings Her Own Sweet Song: Eva Aumen

An artist reception was held today, June 19, 2016, for Eva Aumen, creator of an intriguing selection of art works currently on display at the Highland County Public Library.

Ms. Aumen explains the technique she used for this transfer print entitled “Shadow” below. The darker leaf impression at the bottom was created by inking a leaf and pressing it onto the paper. A second print on top without any additional ink added produced a lighter twin image.

Other art work consisted of watercolor, gouache, ink, monoprint, pastel collage, and mixed media. Here is a selection:

In her artist statement, Eva described her experience of creating art:

“Trying to paint the beauty of nature is a very humbling experience—such subtle color out there.
Painting is also a world of enchantment and delight. Sometimes after I finish a painting I look at it and say, ‘How did I do that?’ I like that kind of unsolved mystery.”

A lively and appreciative crowd attended this reception. The exhibit will be at the library until July 21, 2016.
